How To Eat Healthy While Traveling

Eating healthy while traveling, whether for work or pleasure, can be really difficult. If we’re being honest, there’s a good chance your diet won’t go as planned. Things come up! Colleagues want to go out, friends and family want to try the local restaurants, there may be a great local brewery you’ve always wanted to visit, etc. Traveling already breaks up your routine and may add some unrecognizable stress to your day so it’s okay if your diet isn’t 100%.

However, with proper planning, keeping some consistency is possible!

We’ve been traveling all over the country to attend incredible events since we first started BANDZ and learned the hard way that what you eat directly impacts the way you feel! To help you avoid the troubles we ran into, here are a few tips to make sure you enjoy your time away while maintaining a mostly healthy and natural diet:

  • Drink Your Water- It’s easy to slack on water intake while traveling, especially if you’re in a car or on a plane for an extended period of time. No one likes being the reason the car ride lasts longer than it needs to be and plane bathrooms aren’t the most enjoyable experience. When possible, chug your water! Proper hydration helps with feeling full and helps your body release toxins found in less quality, sodium dense food, and alcohol products.
  • Research Local Grocery Stores- There are options to eat healthy, you just have to find them! It’s 2020 and more and more stores are focusing on supplying quality products with natural and organic ingredients. If you can reserve your stay at a hotel or even Airbnb that has a kitchen, it’ll be much easier to store and cook your food rather than resort to eating at restaurants for every meal!
  • View Online Menus- If you are going to eat out, look up the restaurant’s menu before going, and make a plan! Know exactly what you’re going to eat so you’re not tempted to eat something unusual because of the overwhelming options on the menu.

  • Eat Protein- Protein satiates your hunger and promotes higher energy levels. Protein satisfies calorie needs without overloading your body with glycogen and fats that won’t be utilized, especially if your workouts will be limited during your trip.
  • Limit Alcohol Consumption- Aside from causing dehydration and being an empty calorie source, alcohol usually reverses the positive decisions made throughout the day. A few drinks in and the desire for a Big Mac and fries becomes more powerful than your willpower to stay on course!
  • Regardless of your travel plans, using these tips and sticking to your healthy habits is certainly possible. With some pre-planning and discipline, you can enjoy your trip without any regrets!
